Learners in this class will develop skills from a Beginner’s level, expanding from simple phrases to more connected, practical communication in everyday contexts. Practice will focus on asking and answering questions, exchanging personal information, and interacting with others using words and phrases related to greetings/introductions, personal details, daily routines, family and friends, work, meals and typical Brazilian foods/drinks, transportation, leisure activities, and places in the city. Learners will also practice navigating common situations (e.g., ordering food, asking for directions, and making plans). The instructor will share personal examples of Brazilian and Portuguese culture and guide learners in cultural exploration.
This course is designed for students with no background in learning Portuguese. Its main objective is to familiarize students with life in different regions of Brazil, discuss current events in politics, economy, society and the current trends in the Brazilian business arena. Students will also learn basic concepts of the Portuguese language, and how to identify various cultural issues such as, distinct temporal schedules and social values. Course taught in English and Portuguese
