Italian Beginner 1 Online (Sat., 9-11am CT)

Objective: Learners in this class will be introduced to a very basic repertoire of words and simple phrases related to personal details and concrete situations. Practice will focus on asking and answering questions within the topics of greetings/introductions, family, personality descriptions, and asking for and providing basic, personal information. The instructor will also guide the learners to explore aspects of the cultures of the culture of Italy and Italian speakers around the world.

Italian Beginner 5 In-Person @ Polk Ave (Wed., 5:30-7:30pm)

** This class will be held at Tennessee Language Center at 193 Polk Ave, Suite D, (2nd floor), Nashville, TN.

Objective: Learners in this class will build on skills developed during Beginner 1, 2, 3 and 4. Practice will focus on daily life communication (with emphasis on shopping using quantity metrics, currency, and cooking/reading recipes which includes the introduction of a new verb tense- the “imperativo”; learners will continue to develop their ability to describe, ask for and provide basic information (introduction of the direct pronouns). The instructor will also guide the learners to explore aspects of the culture of Italy and Italian speakers around the world (usage of supporting videos and cooking shows).

Italian Explorer 1 In-Person @ Polk Ave (Tues., 5:30-7:30pm)

Objective:  Learners in Explorer 1 will build on what they learned in the previous classes, improving their understanding, and speaking skills, furthering their lexical and grammatical knowledge of the Italian language. Topics will cover more in-depth vocabulary for family relations among friends, neighbors, as well as topics on employment and education in Italy with emphasis on professional life. The instructor will also guide the learners to explore real world videos, vlogs and Italian social media accounts and articles by giving them fun, level-appropriate tasks.

Italian Explorer 6 Online (Thurs., 6-8pm)

Learners in ITA Explorer 6 will continue to build on skills developed during the Beginner 1-6 and Explorer 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 levels, furthering their speaking and comprehension skills, acquiring new vocabulary and grammatical knowledge of the Italian language.

Topics will cover tourism and story telling using more idiomatic sentences and common "modi di dire", as well as added content about Italian culture.

If you are new to TLC and interested in taking this course, please contact us at worldlanguage@tennessee.edu. Admission for new students is determined via a placement test and available space.

This course is for learners of Italian at a level Advanced Low/Mid and above. Learners in this class can narrate and describe the time frames of past, present and future in a paragraph-length discourse. They can contribute to conversation with sufficient accuracy, clarity and precision to convey their intended message. During this course, learners will gain more linguistic ease, confidence and competence.
