** Class begins May 1, ends July 3 (no class May 15) Instructor: Thana Numan Objective: Learners in this class will build on skills developed during Beginner 1, 2 and 3 with a focus on the Arabic alphabet and sound systems (Modern Standard Arabic) and continued conversation practice at the novice low proficiency level. Each unit covered in this course addresses all four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking (including colloquial Arabic). Activities will provide more open-ended practice to enable learners to push themselves in speaking and writing, and to comprehend texts beyond their current proficiency level in reading and listening. This course will apply and further develop many concepts covered in Beginner 3 in new contexts while incorporating additional colloquial expressions. The instructor will also guide the learners to explore Arabic culture featuring a wide variety of regional traditions and dialects.
