About
As the language services industry grows and expands, interpreters are consistently being called to assist in more and more corners of the healthcare system. Moreover, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when we saw the need for language access soar, hospital and clinic-based interpreters are finding themselves increasingly more involved in end-of-life family meetings and patient conversations. For many of us, this is unfamiliar territory and one that may make us feel uncomfortable or even fearful. Questions like, “What does this type of encounter even look like?”, “What terminology will I hear?”, and “What do I do if the patient bursts into tears?” pervade when we approach this idea of an end-of-life interpretation. Whether the encounter will be in the ICU or in a surgery center or cancer clinic, the goal of this workshop is to help prepare and empower us, as interpreters, both linguistically and emotionally for these difficult topics so that we may provide the highest quality and more compassionate service possible to our patient families and provider colleagues. This 4-hour webinar has been approved by the CCHI for 4 CEAP CEUs and by the NBCMI for 0.4 IMIA CEUs.
